Help the Bees

If you here, then you already know honey bees are in danger. Honey bees are responsible for the pollinations of over 100 different crops here in the U.S., including fruits, grains, nuts and vegetables. That’s about one-third of the food we eat!

Their small act of pollination adds billions of dollars to improved yield and quality of agricultural crops annually. Unfortunately, the past few years, the honey bees and other pollinators have been struggling.

You don’t have to be a beekeeper to help honey bees and other native pollinators. A few simple changes and you will be on the way to helping secure the future of pollinators.

Plant a Bee Garden

A great way to help is to plant a pollinator garden to provide forage for honey bees and other native pollinators

We have Wild Flower Seed Packets available for purchase here.

We also have an annual Seedling Sale here at Misty Meadows where you can purchase flower and vegetable seedlings beginning in May.

Buy Local Honey

Help take care of the bees by directly supporting those who dedicate their time and work to the art of beekeeping.

Our honey is available for purchase directly from us (call/text to make an appointment), online, and at the Mineral Market.

Manage your use of Pesticides

Though it’s almost impossible to completely avoid the use of pesticides, we can be smarter about how we use pesticides.

Xerces Society, a leading nonprofit organization focused on conservation of invertebrates and their habitat can help you lessen the impact of pesticides on your landscape, insuring bees have safe and healthy forage. Visit them here.

Join the Great Sunflower Project

Plant a Lemon Queen variety sunflower and help identify the effects of pesticides on pollinators.

People all over the country are collecting data on pollinators in their yards, gardens, schools and parks. They have been gathering information on pollinator service since 2008, and now have the largest single body of information about bee pollinator service in North America.
