Ordering Seed Catalogs

Can you believe it’s already February 2021!! It’s never too early to start thinking about your garden. In fact, if you plan on starting your own seeds, some of them need to be started this month!!

Over the past couple of weeks, our mailbox has been filling up with various seed catalogs. The

Baker Creek catalog is always our favorite. It’s one of the most well throughout, informative and beautiful catalogs available – definitely coffee table worthy if you can manage to wipe the drool off the pages!!

If you haven’t already ordered catalogs from your favorite seed companies, now is the time to do it.

Here is a list of our favorites. They have all signed the “Safe Seed Pledge”, meaning they pledge to not knowingly buy, sell or trade genetically engineered seeds or plants (GMO’s are BAD)… and they will send you a FREE catalog!

Here are few more things you can do RIGHT NOW to make your gardening season smoother:

  1. Find your USDA Plant Hardiness Zone and start thinking about what you would like to plant in your garden and when the seeds need to be started.
  2. Go through your leftover seeds, discarding those that are too old or damaged.
  3. Make a list of seeds you need (or want) to order.
  4. Order your seeds!!

It’s so exciting getting packages of new seeds in the mail! If you know you’re not going to want or need all the seeds in the packet, consider purchasing them with a friend and splitting the package OR consider holding a seed trading event in your community!!

Here is my recent order from Strictly Medicinal. Due to Covid, many seed companies are taking 2 to 4 weeks to process your order – these came within a week!

To help you organize you seed buying efforts, here is the “Seed Inventory” page from our updated DOWNLOADABLE “My Garden Journal” available in our Etsy Shop. We use ours every year and know it will help you too!

Are there seed companies you use that we missed? Leave the information in the comments below.
